A MAN who claimed he was a Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) member was yesterday dragged to court for allegedly defrauding a woman of $3,250 after misrepresenting himself as a motor sales agent.
Vongai Moyo from Mzilikazi reportedly duped Collen Mangenya who wanted to buy a motor vehicle by claiming he could get her a car from outside the country without paying customs duty.
He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya facing fraud and impersonating charges and pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Tashaya remanded him out of custody to Monday.
The state led by Tafadzwa Mutsambiwa said that on May 7 at Freedom House, Moyo told Mangenya that he was an officer from the CIO.
He said he could assist her to import a vehicle without paying duty.
It was later discovered that Moyo is not a member of the CIO.
Moyo also encouraged Mangenya to deposit money. Mangenya went on and deposited $2,800 into Moyo’s account.
Moyo called her and demanded more money and Mangenya deposited $450.
He then converted the $3,250 to his own use, and nothing was recovered.
