Bogus job agents target trainee nurses

Chitungwiza Central Hospital chief executive Dr Obadiah Moyo yesterday warned the public against bogus agents who claim to work for its nurse training school and charging large amounts for the applications. In a statement, Dr Moyo (pictured left) said the hospital had no room for corruption.

“The hospital management would therefore want to warn members of the community to desist from these corrupt, illegal practices and advise that if caught, both parties, namely; the giver of the bribe and the receiver of the bribe, will be liable for prosecution,” he said.

Dr Moyo said the corrupt acts were being spearheaded by individuals posing as youth advocates seeking for the empowerment of socially disadvantaged youths from the community. The supposed youth advocates claim to be closely related to the hospital authorities.

“It has come to the attention of the Chitungwiza Central Hospital management that there are some unscrupulous members of the community who are masquerading as agents for the School of Nursing and charging huge amounts of money to unsuspecting applicants who are given false assurance of securing places to train as nurses,” he said.

Dr Moyo said the fake agents would then claim that the money charged would be shared among senior hospital management.

“We have also realised that prospective applicants are also initiating the corrupt activities while working in cahoots with these people who are masquerading as agents of the hospital in trying to secure nurse training places and when they fail to secure such places they then frequent offices of senior hospital management seeking help in order for them to recover the money they would have paid to these corrupt people,” said Dr Moyo.

Residents were encouraged to report the agents of corruption.

“As such, anyone who holds information regarding this type of corrupt activity is encouraged to, without hesitation, report the matter to the chief executive officer or public relations officer on 0774120811,” he said.
