In addition, he was ordered to pay back US$75 to Blessed Jere (25) of Hopely Farm.
Phiri met Jere on February 14 at around 10.30am at the registrar’s offices at Makoni in Chitungwiza and told him that he worked at the passport issuing offices.
The desperate Jere was lured and was asked to pay US$75 so that he could have his passport processed.
After getting the money, Phiri went inside another office claiming he was taking fingerprints forms while Jere was waiting outside.
Phiri stormed out of that office and went to his home. Jere waited in vain to get the passport. Efforts to meet Phiri were fruitless.
While drinking at Kingview Bottle Store, Jere apprehended him and took him to the police leading to his arrest.
He was convicted of fraud after pleading guilty before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
