Bomber complains of ring rust

LACK of fights continues to frustrate South Africa-based former World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa heavyweight champion Elvis Moyo who has gone for four years without stepping into the ring.

Moyo had his hopes of ending his forced sabbatical due to lack of opponents crushed when America boxer Eddie Chambers withdrew from the fight in November last year.

Known by his ring name “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo, last fought in May 2019, losing by a unanimous judges’ decision to Arnold Gjergjaj.

In an interview from his Johannesburg base yesterday afternoon, Moyo expressed his frustrations at failing to get fights.

“I’m working hard for a comeback even though I’m still struggling to get fights. I’m hoping to get a boxing fight at the end of August in Johannesburg against an American boxer.

Sadly, that’s the same contacts who were going to bring me that Eddie Chambers fight to Namibia last November, but as you remember he pulled out four days before the fight.

“So, we’ve been talking with the agent, they insist they have an opponent for the end of August in Johannesburg and that is giving me hope. Whichever way, I have to fight in August or September.

“I would take anything and if a promoter in Zimbabwe can make a tournament and promote a fight for me that will be highly appreciated,” said Moyo.
