AN award winning author from Midlands has published a novel that speaks about the social ills caused by promiscuity in the lives of young people.

Rogers Upenyu Chaipa is an award winning author and has a number of books both locally and regionally. Chaipa released a novel titled The lecher and his key message is in presenting the ills of promiscuity.

“The book is about a womaniser called Reza who impregnated a girl after high school and thus dashing his hopes of proceeding to A-level. He went to a teacher’s college and was deployed at a rural school where he fell in love with a married woman and this affair led to his fall from grace,” he said.

Chaipa said the key message in the book was educating people on the dangers of immorality.

“The key message of the book is to teach society that the thrills of promiscuity lead to regret. The story targets school going children and educates them on the dangers of premarital sex that shatter their dreams and hopes. Reza is an example of a youth who caused anguish to his parents despite their sacrifices as he was now forced to do odd jobs to take care of his wife and child at a young age,” he said.

He said the motivation behind the novel is presenting the consequences of the infidelity.

“The motivation behind the book is the realisation that illicit affairs which have been there since time immemorial lead to disgrace amongst families and couples. The goal is to inform people on the importance of desisting from these illicit affairs,” he said.

Chaipa is working on a number of projects on environment and substance abuse.

“I have several manuscripts that are under consideration by the publisher, these are children’s books with varied lessons about the environment, drug and substance abuse, early pregnancy, and other topical issues,” he said.
