WINNERS of the Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championship will this year smile to the bank once again after the main sponsor of the annual event unveiled another US$10 000 sponsorship package per year. The sponsorship deal is for two years.

Last year the competition was held at the Bulawayo Movie Theatre but this year it will be held at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre on November 16. The competition is sponsored by AG Petroleum, a supplier of petroleum products, diesel, petrol and lubricants owned by Bulawayo businessman Admire Gomera.

Unlike in 2022, when the competition was open to bodybuilders from all over the country, only participants from Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South Provinces, which make up the Bulawayo Bodybuilding Association will be allowed to contest.

“Our sponsor AG Petroleum has renewed the Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championship for another two years with US$10 000 on the table for each year which means our winning athletes will be paid handsomely. We are grateful to AG Petroleum for continuing to work with us in making sure that there is monetary incentives for bodybuilders to take part in the Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championship,” said Simon Gama, an official from Bulawayo Bodybuilding Association.

The sponsorship package is for winning prizes as well as other expenses running the competition.”AG Petroleum decided to sponsor the bodybuilding contest as part of its corporate social responsibility programme. As a Bulawayo-based company, we want to be part of the journey of the growth of bodybuilding in the region and what better way to do that than by sponsoring the prestigious Mr Bulawayo Bodybuilding Championships.

“We would like to see local bodybuilders excel in national, regional and international competitions and the only way to achieve that is by sponsoring competitions so that they are motivated to train hard and compete,” said Gomera.
Gama said the city has a large pool of emerging bodybuilders from different gyms.

“There are so many young bodybuilders from gyms such as Body Works, Dynamics, Pro-Active and other small gyms in the suburbs who are ready to compete,” said Gama.
