Chambuta Children’s Home in Chiredzi received groceries from Harare City Council firms, Harare Quarry and City Parking, yesterday, as a direct response to calls by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for corporates and citizens to help the home prosper.
The First Lady is spearheading the transformation of Chambuta into a fully fledged rehabilitation centre for children living on the streets who are taken there from various centres.
The groceries included rice, cooking oil and bar soap, among others.
They were delivered at Town House and would be handed over to the children’s home on Saturday.
Accepting the donations, Harare mayor Jacob Mafume expressed gratitude over the donations. He said they will go a long way in supporting the cause being spearheaded by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and the Angel of Hope Foundation to revamp the institution.
“We have responded to the call by the First Lady to support the vulnerable and also the call from our shareholder, which adopted a house at the children’s home,” he said.
Chambuta is based in Chiredzi, and is taking care of a number of former street children, mostly from Harare.
