THE sponsorship for the boys section of the COPA Coca-Cola schools soccer tournament has been increased, a development that will see some adjustments to the prize structure for this year’s event.Albert Mucheka, the National Association of Secondary School Heads head in charge of soccer, confirmed the development will see the losing quarter-finalists get rewarded more than last year. The teams that bow out at the quarter-final stage this year will each get $1 500 up from $1 200.
Winners of the Under-16 boys category will walk away with $6 500 which is the same as last year while the prize for the runners-up has been adjusted from $5 500 last year to $5 000 this year. Individual prizes for the players remain at $100 while the coaches of the tournament will get $200 which has also not been changed. Mucheka said the fair play prize for the boys which stood at $1 500 last year has been lowered to $1 000.
“Sponsorship for the boys section of the COPA Coca-Cola has been upped from what it was last year which has seen some prize adjustments especially for the boys,’’ said Mucheka.
The official launch of this year’s COPA Coca-Cola has been set for Friday at Chemhanza High School in Wedza, which is the home of the defending champions in the boys section.
At the launch, the draw for the national finals set for Harare from 18 to 20 July will be conducted.
