Border Strikers date Gweru

RUNAWAY log leaders Border Strikers will once again face another stern challenge when they make the long trip to Gweru for a date with Gweru United at Ascot Stadium today.

It will be a match featuring two teams with contrasting fortunes with the visitors managing only a point from the last two games while Gweru

United have been on a purple patch having gone for a 12-match unbeaten streak.

However, despite the recent statistics heavily stacked against the log leaders, Never Malunga, the Border Strikers gaffer, believes his charges are ready for battle and will end their two-match winless run today.

“Everyone has their objective and ours is to gain promotion. Like I have always said the destiny is in our hands and we need to keep on getting positive results and tomorrow (today) it’s no different. A win is a must for us if we are to take off the pressure on ourselves,” he said.

As it stands Vavheneki now need to win three of their remaining five matches to be assured of premiership football next season.

However, Gweru United coach, Peter Manoti, believes his charges will come to the party and upset their fancied opponents.

“We are expecting a good game and we are more than ready. My boys respond well to high profile games and I am sure tomorrow’s (today) game will be no different,” said Manoti.

“The championship is no longer in our hands and that does not mean we will do other teams favours,” he added.
