A 55-year-old Harare man from Borrowdale on Saturday appeared in court after he was arrested in possession 10,5 grammes of cocaine.
Tekie Yitbarek Yemanu was charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs when he appeared before a Harare magistrate.

He was remanded in custody to today for continuation of the case.
The court heard that on October 8 2026, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare received information to the effect that Yemanu had cocaine at his residence in Borrowdale, Harare.

It is alleged that they proceeded to the address and carried out static surveillance before they saw Yemanu sitting in the driver’s seat of a blue Honda Fit, registration number AGD3508, at the gate at number 56 Campbell Avenue, Borrowdale, Harare.
They knocked on the transparent door windows of Yemanu’s car, showed him their police identity cards, and he refused to unlock the car doors.

It was alleged that Yemanu then opened the remote-controlled gate and drove into the yard at high speed with detectives in pursuit on foot.
The detectives fired shots into the air, but Yemanu only stopped his car after reaching a dead end in the yard, got out of the car and attempted to scale a precast wall to escape.

The detectives caught up with him, again showed him their police identity cards and searched him.
They allegedly recovered two medium sachets containing white powder suspected to be cocaine from the left inside pocket of a cream suit jacket Yemanu was wearing.

Further searches in Yemanu’s blue Honda Fit and his cottage were made, but nothing of police interest was recovered.
Yemanu escorted to the station where the seized cocaine was weighed in his presence and it weighed approximately 10,5 grammes.

A presumptive test was done again in Yemanu’s presence and the recovered drugs tested positive for cocaine.
