Highlanders Football Club has launched a landmark partnership with CBZ Bank, unveiling the Highlanders Supporters’ Card, an innovative dual-purpose product that functions both as a club membership card and a fully operational CBZ bank account, complete with VISA functionality.

Now available to members, the card enables supporters to transact globally while contributing financially to the club with every use.

Announced last Friday evening, the initiative forms part of Highlanders’ preparations for their centenary celebrations in 2026 and is anticipated to benefit millions of supporters both locally and across the diaspora.

“We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Highlanders and CBZ Bank!” the club said in a statement.

“Our Bosso membership cards now double as CBZ bank accounts, enabling seamless transactions, savings, and remittances with the added convenience of a VISA card. A percentage of every transaction will support the club, driving growth and success.”

CBZ Bank executives highlighted the long-term impact and innovation behind the product.

“It is my distinct pleasure and privilege today to introduce the Highlanders Supporters’ Card, an innovative and versatile solution meticulously crafted to enhance your identity and streamline your financial interactions,” said Emmanuel Tapera, Executive for Digital Banking and Alternative Channels at CBZ.

The card offers a range of practical benefits. Users who transact at least US$50 per month qualify for complimentary insurance cover, including a US$250 funeral benefit and daily hospital cover of US$50 for up to five days, starting from the third day of hospitalisation.

Supporters using CBZ’s Zikicash remittance service also receive similar insurance benefits.
“Whether you’re in Zimbabwe, the UK, or anywhere else around the globe, your financial connection to Highlanders FC is now simpler and more secure,” Tapera said.

“Cardholders are not just supporting the team emotionally, but financially as well. Highlanders will receive US$0,05 for each successful transaction.”

The card also incorporates a promotional Zikicash code for Highlanders, allowing the club to earn commissions through its worldwide support base.

CBZ noted that this creates a steady stream of revenue while keeping supporters engaged, regardless of their location.

Speaking at the launch, CBZ Group Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Nyazema said the partnership extended beyond banking.

“Our partnership with Highlanders is not just transactional; it embodies the spirit of solidarity, shared vision, and communal growth that both institutions deeply cherish,” he said.

CBZ also revealed plans to support the development of “Highlanders Village”, a proposed residential estate to honour the club’s legendary players, along with the renovation of the iconic Highlanders Clubhouse, transforming it into a modern, self-sustaining hub for sport and community activities.

“This village will ensure that the achievements of our football heroes remain vibrant inspirations for future generations. As we move towards the centennial celebrations, preparations that reflect the magnitude of this club’s impact must begin now,” said Nyazema. Highlanders is currently sponsored by Sakunda Holdings and King Bullion, and maintains partnerships with Utande, Sanctuary Insurance, and Nyaradzo Funeral Services.

With CBZ Bank now joining the fold, the club enters a new era of innovation, engagement, and financial sustainability. Echoing the club’s enduring legacy, Nyazema quoted the late Ndumiso Gumede: “Bosso is not just a club; it’s an eternal flame that burns in the hearts of millions.”

With this strategic move, Highlanders FC and CBZ Bank have ushered in a new chapter in Zimbabwean football, one where financial empowerment meets sporting passion.
