THE relationship between Highlanders chief executive officer Denzil Mnkandla and the club’s leadership has taken another turn for the worse after he was suspended for a second time in three months.
Chronicle has established that Mnkandla was served with a suspension letter this week after he had only recently returned to work following an earlier suspension over alleged irregularities linked to the club’s pre-season training camp in Botswana.
Sources said his latest suspension is linked to his declaration of incapacitation after he stopped reporting for duty over the club’s failure to pay his salary for several months. The club subsequently instructed him to return to work before instituting disciplinary proceedings.
The latest suspension also comes as investigations into the Botswana trip remain ongoing. Mnkandla was initially suspended in April over issues arising from the camp before the executive lifted the suspension and reinstated him pending further investigations.
Club insiders said the Botswana matter has not been closed, with internal processes still underway.
In a letter to the club’s leadership last week, Mnkandla said he could no longer report for duty because he had gone for months without receiving his salary.
