THE country’s traditional giants Highlanders and Dynamos have been handpicked to clash in the inaugural TM Supermarkets Challenge Cup that will run under the promotional drive, “Big Brands Bargain Bonanza” that the retail giant launched last Friday. The financial package for the one off final is not yet out but the the match is pencilled for September 6 at a venue yet to be decided. The big match will mark the end of the retail chain’s Big Brands Bargain Bonanza promotion.

“Our Big Brands Bargain Bonanza promotion was launched on July 17, 2014 and will run till September 6, 2014. Our proposed signature event that will mark the end of the promotion is the match between two of the biggest brands in local football, Highlanders and Dynamos,” said Meikles financial director Onias Makamba.

He said discussions with all interested parties were still in progress.

“The discussions with all the interested and relevant parties are still in progress and will avail to you once finalised,” said Makamba.

Highlanders and Dynamos will be meeting for the third time when they clash in the planned big match and so far DeMbare has prevailed.

DeMbare met and beat Bosso 2-0 in the Bob90 Cup at Rufaro Stadium before choking a 1-0 win in the first leg of the Castle Premiership match at the giant National Sports Stadium.

The PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele has already expressed concern over fixture congestion which has seen the league cancelling all friendly matches. This is the  challenge which the planned big clash is likely to face.

Ndebele is under pressure due to the forthcoming African Union Sports Council Region Five Under-20 Games that will be held in the city in December.

The renovation work will see Bulawayo’s two stadiums, Luveve and Barbourfields Stadium being temporarily shut down.
