HIGHLANDERS’ 100 Years Celebrations are set to go a notch up when the club plays host to a high profile corporate golf event at Bulawayo Country Club tomorrow.
Bosso, the country’s elite football league’s oldest club is celebrating a century of existence. A number of low key activities have been held since last year and the momentum is gathering pace now.
The golf tournament is preceding a planned exhibition at the Art Gallery soon, a music concert and a Highlanders Sports Association Gala.
Roger Muhlwa yesterday led members of the Highlanders 100 Years committee during a visit to Bulawayo Country Club to check on preparations for the tournament.
“We have golfers flying from as far as South Africa who are coming to celebrate Bosso’s achievement. All is being put in place for a good event in which members of the general public have also been invited to come and watch their colleagues,” said Muhlwa.
Morris Brown Mpala a member of the finance sub-committee and Nicholas Nyathi, the vice-chairman of the organising management committee concurred with Muhlwa that preparations are on course and they looked forward to a great day.
Skha Moyo who is the celebrations project manager was among those that visited the golf club.
The golf tournament proceeds will fund legends and junior development programmes.
Muhlwa was with two outstanding servants of the club, Josiah Nxumalo a striker during the 1970s campaign who retired after the 1981 season and Lawrence Phiri who upon retiring the same year with Nxumalo, coached the club and became a successful manager during an eight- year long stretch.
“We have many events lined up for the Highlanders Centenary Celebrations which include this Golf tournament,” said Muhlwa.
