Bosso ‘insulting’ offer sparks transfer window madness

THE transfer window has opened and with it comes the frenzy of negotiations and deals in the world of football. However, the madness has already begun with Highlanders FC’s “disrespectful offer” of a mere US$2 000 for Bulawayo Chiefs’ star player, Mthokozisi Msebe.

“We would like to engage the above named player on a permanent basis. Our offer for permanent transfer is two thousand dollars (USD$2 000),” reads Highlanders’ offer letter.

The 23-year-old former Zim Leopards attacking midfielder has become a highly sought-after player in the domestic league with FC Platinum and Chicken Inn also eyeing the talented star.

Despite the financial challenges faced by Bulawayo Chiefs, Msebe has been a shining light for the team under the tutelage of Lizwe Sweswe, impressing in the central attacking role in the opening 13 games of the season.

Having won Bulawayo Chiefs’ Player of the Month award for April, Msebe has proved to be an invaluable asset to the club, contributing three goals and six assists in just 12 games.

Reports suggest that Msebe has only six months remaining on his contract and Bulawayo Chiefs are eager to secure his services for the long term.

However, crosstown rivals Highlanders have made an official offer of a mere US$2 000 for Msebe’s transfer, leaving Bulawayo Chiefs feeling insulted.

Meanwhile, Highlanders are keen on striker Obriel Chirinda, and a short-term exchange loan deal involving goalkeeper Raphael Pitisi and striker Washington Navaya has been proposed.

Bulawayo Chiefs spokesperson Thulani “Javas” Sibanda said that they won’t stand in the way of any player if a meaningful offer is presented.

“The position is still the same, we won’t stand on the path of any player should a meaningful offer be tabled,” said Sibanda.

In addition to the transfer drama, it seems former national team defensive midfielder Danny Phiri is trying to force his way out, with Chicken Inn being his intended destination.

Bulawayo Chiefs recently announced the departure of five players, including experienced names such as Kuda Musharu and William Stima.

This decision has frustrated Coach Sweswe who felt disrespected by the club’s actions and subsequently resigned.

It was understood that when Sweswe took over as head coach at the start of the season, it was agreed with the management that the veterans he brought in would be released midway through the season after stabilising the team.

Meanwhile, Chicken Inn, the 2015 champions, have bolstered their squad with the signings of Obert Malajila and Tadiwa Chibunyu.

To make room for the new arrivals, attackers Munashe Pini and Nicole Mutatiwa are expected to be released.

As the transfer window unfolds, football fans can expect more drama and surprises.
