HIGHLANDERS had by last night acquired the services of little known Botswana-based attacking midfielder Tinashe Chipunza from Miscellaneous Football Club and were still making frantic efforts to have former Botswana B-Mobile Golden Boot winner Master Masitara on their books.Masitara, a former top goalscorer in the Batswana Premiership, has been turning out for Nico United and had a stint in Mozambique.
Masitara, formerly with Mkwasine and Railstars, scored 18 goals in his debut season in 2006 and in 2007, he netted 28 goals before leaving for Mozambique’s Liga Muculmana midway in the season.
Making way for Chipunza was the club’s joint top goalscorer Graham Ncube whom the club said was told of the decision to release him long back and should have found a club by yesterday.
Highlanders secretary Andrew ‘Squad’ Tapela confirmed the latest developments at the championship chasing Bulawayo giants.
“Chipunza comes in for Graham. All his papers in terms of the Premiership requirements have been processed with the only document we are waiting for being the Reverse International Transfer Certificate from the Botswana club,” said Tapela.
He was still confident last night that the club was still going to be able to have the Botswana B-Mobile striker Masitara turning out for Bulawayo.
“There are some papers we still need to have but it looks promising. We always had a slot for one player but the coaches wanted to release two players and register three during the second transfer-window,” said Tapela.
Highlanders roped in Gabriel Nyoni while releasing Cleopas Dube who has since joined Zifa Southern Region Division One championship contenders Bulawayo Chiefs.
Meanwhile, Harare giants Dynamos also registered three players by yesterday, penning deals with their former player Benjamin Marere, Oscar Machapa from Moroka Swallows and Victor Kamhuka who was turning out for the now relegated South African club Black Leopards.
Also at Dynamos is Tafadzwa Rusike, rejected by Cape Town Ajax.
“We have reached agreements with these players but as for who would be offloaded we have to wait for the coach who is arriving later tonight (yesterday). I must state that we might not offload anyone unless the coach, Callisto Pasuwa, says so,” said Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa last night.
The second transfer-window officially closed yesterday.
