HIGHLANDERS Football Club are of the view that their women’s team project is moving in the right direction since they partnered with Sobukhazi High School last year.
Bosso merged with Sobukhazi High School in a deal that saw the high school players and the technical team moving to the Bosso squad. The Sobukhazi High School’s women’s team has benefited a lot from merging with Highlanders as they get to meet and benefit from experienced coaches provided by Highlanders Royals and as well as enjoying medical benefits. Addressing club members during last Sunday’s Annual General Meeting, Bosso chairman Johnfat Sibanda said the rebuilding of the women’s side is well on course.
“A ladies’ side is now a pre-requisite for any professional club as it is now a club licencing requirement.

Emerging from the jaws of the pandemic, we had a very difficult task to put together a squad for our ladies’ side. Our strategy was to rebuild a very young side that will then compete for honours in the next coming years. To achieve this, we have partnered Sobukhazi High School and integrated their young players and part of their coaching staff into the Highlanders Royals. After a struggle at the beginning of their season, the team improved tremendously, posting good results towards the end of the season. This is proof that this project is in the right direction,” he added.

The Confederation of African Football regime has set a law to the effect that only clubs that invest in women’s football would be allowed to take part in its competitions such as the Champions League and Confederation Cup. Recently, a recommendation from the Zifa Restructuring Committee urged the Government to have direct budgetary and administration support for the Warriors and Mighty Warriors teams. — Follow on Twitter @innocentskizoe
