Bosso to widen CEO search

HIGHLANDERS have been urged to widen their search for a chief executive officer by advertising the post with employment agencies in order to get a candidate with a sharp business acumen to rescue the club from a ballooning debt that threatens to tear down the institution.

Bosso faces a debt of $800 000.

Principal sponsors Banc ABC recently announced a reduced sponsorship deal of $200 000 for the 2017 Premiership season, a situation that will leave the club with no choice but to dig deeper into its coffers to cater for players salaries and other needs.

Longtime benefactor Kenneth Mhlophe believes that Bosso must move away from a culture of a?recyclinga? past administrators for an important position of club CEO and bring in an individual who will add value to the football institution.

a?Highlanders needs a business savvy CEO and not a handpicked individual with no guts to knock on the doors of other chief executive officers, play golf with them, establish relations and ultimately convince big players in the corporate sector to partner the club and bring in the much needed money.

a?In fact the club should advertise the post with employment agencies, clearly spell out the duties and responsibilities of the CEO and that way the best candidate for the job will be found.

a?We should guard against perceptions that a good CEO cannot be found in two months unless if the powers that be at the club already have a preferred CEO in their pockets,a? said Mhlophe.

The club has until 31 March to fill the post.

Since former CEO Ndumiso Gumedeas contract expired at the end of 2016, secretary-general Emmett Ndlovu has assumed the roles of the Highlanders head of secretariat a albeit without financial remuneration.

His name has been mentioned in the list of potential candidates but he recently told our sister paper the Sunday News that he is not interested in the job.

a?I am not getting a cent from Highlanders. I have no interest of being CEO. I went for an elected position at Highlanders which shows I donat want to be an employee at the club. I am the SG and will see my term through,aa said the former Bosso medic and team manager.

Former club vice-chairman Elkanah Dube also distanced himself from the post.

a?Iam employed at a private school and have no intention of applying for the position of Highlanders CEO,a? said Dube.
