‘Bosso will come good’

CAPS United striker Rodrick Mutuma believes Highlanders coach Bongani Mafu is building a very formidable side that will give opposition teams a run for their money.

The controversial former Dynamos player, however, said he would continue scoring against the Bulawayo giants as a way of proving to them that it was a mistake to snub him on two separate occasions, the latest being this year.

Speaking during an interview at the Highlanders Clubhouse, a few hours after scoring the opener in the Bob91 Super Cup elimination match at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, the lanky Mutuma said all that Highlanders players need is a big match temperament, something which he says comes naturally to him.

Mutuma found the opener in the 44th minute, eight minutes after their coach Mark Harrison made a tactical substitution, bringing in veteran Leornard Tsipa who was deployed as the gunman while Mutuma dropped back to midfield.

“We beat them today but they (Bosso) are surely a good side. Their coach (Mafu) is building a weapon that will soon let loose its venomous poison and that I can repeat without being malicious, the boys just need to have a big heart and that, complimented by the coach’s strategy, will see Highlanders being a hard nut to crack,” said Mutuma.

He said Highlanders players need to embrace the bigger picture of a match, which is winning instead of playing to the gallery before the game would have been wrapped up.

Nicknamed “The Prince”, Mutuma, who is yet to lose to Highlanders as a player, revealed that he could have been turning out for Bosso this year after his former coach at Dynamos Callisto Pasuwa had recommended him to the Highlanders technical bench.

“It’s the second time that they have snubbed me, the first was when I was still with Quelaton. I won’t lose my desire to play for Highlanders because its every player’s dream to call Barbourfields Stadium his home ground. However, until I’m on their payroll, I won’t stop inflicting pain on them by scoring,” said Mutuma who was in the company of Dynamos supporter Carlos Taruvinga.
