Botswana eye first Mali win

Botswana are used to being beaten soundly, but after annihilating Eritrea in October, they’d want to do an encore.

But today’s impending clash will be Mali, a heavyweight when in the mood. And the 5-1 first round aggregate win against the team from the horn will be a distant memory.

That has not stopped the Zebras from dreaming of another victory in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign when they host the west Africans at the Francistown Sports Complex.

Zebras captain Joel Mogorosi, who netted two goals against Eritrea, will look to maintain his fine form in front of goal when he leads his side against Mali. Botswana remain undefeated at the new stadium, where they have posted two competitive wins.

They’d also look to their Afcon qualifying win in September for inspiration, as the Zebras sensationally pipped Burkina Faso 1-0.

As for Mali, they aim for business as usual, considering they have never tasted defeat against their hosts in five competitive matches — the Eagles have scored 16 goals and conceded only three. — supersport.com
