ZIMBABWE skip Denis Streak feels they have a balanced side for the Africa State Bowls tournament set for September in Botswana. Streak last captained the team in 2011 in Kenya where the Zimbabwe men’s side won silver in the Pairs and overall and bronze in the Fours. Zimbabwe have a good record of doing well at the Masters. In 2010 when they hosted the event and won gold.
“We have a good competitive side. About the teams we are going to play I think we will have a tough match against South Africa.

“They have a very good side but we will try and give it our best shot.
“South Africa has more than 20 000 bowlers and we have around 200, so it is quite tough to beat them.
“I am very happy to be in the team, it is a well balanced side and we have the opportunity to pick up many medals. There is a lot of experience in the squad so I believe we will do well.

“We have a busy schedule before the Africa States which is good for us,” said Streak.
The tournament, set for September 6-13, will have more than six countries competing in all the bowling disciplines.

Some of the countries expected to feature are Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa and hosts Botswana.
Bowls queen Kerry Craven is once again the skip for the women’s national side.

“I am very excited, we have a new team and we should be quite a compatible side. A lot of hard work and practice needs to be done so that we are on the same page.
“I foresee good things coming our way if we train hard in the remaining months. We have a lot of time to polish up and be a perfect side for the Masters,” said Craven.
