Lovemore Meya Harare Bureau
A DARING 16-year-old-boy impersonated a police officer to impress a 27-year-old female cop he was proposing love to in Chitungwiza.
The boy had even “arrested” a commuter omnibus driver for dangerous parking and asked for US$5 as a fine before meeting Constable Chirau, to whom he proposed love.
The lad did not show remorse for his actions when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Kudakwashe Jarabini on Tuesday and even shared with the court his dream of becoming a police officer.
Prosecutors said shortly after 10AM on Thursday last week, the boy — a Form 2 drop-out — was walking along Mharapara Road when he met Cst Chirau.
He introduced himself as a cop stationed at Dema in Seke and told the unsuspecting police officer that he was on an operation code-named “Chapwititi”, targeting commuter omnibuses.
He then started proposing love to Cst Chirau before another officer identified as Cst Jambaya joined them. The three arrested the driver of a commuter omnibus along the way and ordered him to drive to Chitungwiza Police Station.
Upon arrival, they went into Cst Leonard Munyukwi and Cst Yeukai Dehwe’s office and the boy told them that he was working with Cst Chirau and Cst Jambaya.
But his luck ran out when he was asked to produce his police identification card. He quickly changed his statements, now claiming he was employed by the Chitungwiza municipal police.
Worse trouble was to follow when a commuter omnibus driver, Luckmore Rimbi, who was in the station, told police that the boy had fined him US$5 the previous day for dangerous parking.
He was arrested and hauled before Jarabini, but got away with just a ticking off.
