Boy gruesomely attacked over father’s suspected affair

For suspecting that a neighbour was seeing his wife, a 34-year-old Zvishavane man decided not to confront the supposed aggressor, and, instead, cowardly and in the most cruel manner, waylaid the neighbour’s 10-year-old boy on his way to school and ruthlessly attacked him with a machete as a way of fixing the father.

The heartless suspect Polite Ruvengo, who has since been arrested on attempted murder charges, suspected the boy, Philip Mapombwa’s father of having an extramarital affair with his wife but decided to mete  violence on the innocent boy, not the father.

He left the boy for dead, chopping off his right hand and striking him several times on the head and face with a sharpened machete.

But as fate would have it, the hapless boy was saved by a good samaritan who picked him up and rushed him to Zvishavane District Hospital.

The tearful father, Mr Tavona Mapomba yesterday narrated the gruesome incident which occurred last week, saying the mere sight of his injured boy sends shivers down his spine.

“I can’t explain this. It’s just something I am still failing to understand, it’s like I am dreaming. Why did this man decide to be this cruel to my child?  Instead of confronting me, he chose to ruthlessly attack an innocent boy in uniform on his was to school, I am still confused. I experience nightmares every time and I can’t even visit the boy in hospital,” narrated Mr Mapombwa who would intermittently break down in the process.

Mr Mapombwa said the boy is still in critical condition and had since been transferred to Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare.

Meanwhile, Ruvengo has since appeared before a Zvishavane magiststrate, Mr Archie Wochiunga facing attempted murder charges.

He was remanded in custody to 14 November 2022.
