Boy Scouts instructor jailed 28yrs for sexual assault

A 35-year-old Boy Scouts master from Seke has been jailed 28 years for aggravated indecent assault, the homosexual version of rape, of seven boys aged between 10 and 19.

The man was convicted by the Chitungwiza Magistrates Court after being charged with seven counts of aggravated indecent assault, and six counts of violating the Data Protection Act.

The assaults occurred between January 2022 and January 2024 during karate training camps.

The man would instruct the boys to thoroughly wash themselves, and showed them pornographic material on his laptop before assaulting them.

The abuse was discovered after one victim disclosed the ordeal to his parents, who then alerted other parents through a WhatsApp group, prompting other victims to come forward as well.

Separately, a 26-year-old man from Chipinge was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl.

On July 17, 2024, the man intervened in a fight between the girl and her classmate.

He then followed the girl home and dragged her into a nearby field.

The man tripped the girl to the ground, threatened to beat her up  if she screamed. He then  proceeded to rape her.

The girl reported the assault to her parents leading to the man’s arrest. — New Ziana.
