Boy seeking assistance for bone marrow transplant dies

Six-year-old Unoshamisa Kasasa, who was seeking $28 000 to travel to go to India for a life-saving bone marrow transplant has died. Unoshamisa died on Monday after his parents had recently appealed for assistance to raise $28 000 for him to undergo the transplant in India.

The account number, 0240577418002, which was being used for the donations is no longer valid and the public is advised to stop depositing money in that account.

The boy was diagnosed with aplastic anemia since May this year.

Unoshamisa’s father, Mr Edward Kasasa said the boy was buried on Tuesday at Kugarahanya in Mutoko.

“I am in pain. People had tried to put their funds for my child to go to India but things did not go our way. This disease has killed two children this year and it is because the disease is unknown to people yet it is killing our children,” he said.

He said the medicines were not available in Zimbabwe and extra caution had to be taken.

“My son had been receiving blood transfusions but that didn’t help. He dropped from school for two terms and that affected him deeply,” said Mr Kasasa.

Aplastic anemia is a condition which causes the bone marrow to cease producing blood and relies heavily on blood transmissions.
