A 42-YEAR-OLD man who raped his girlfriend’s 10-month-old baby will be sentenced on 30 January following his conviction at the Gwanda magistrates’ courts last week.

Simon Ngulube, who is from Nkimani village, Esigodini is being charged with raping an infant, initially covered up the crime by promising to buy his girlfriend a bed if she did not make a police report.

Abigail Nkomo (31) from Khomani Village under Chief Sigola did not report the incident, until she discovered Ngulube was dating another woman. It was then that she rushed to the police to report the incident. She appeared separately before Esigodini Magistrate Menelisa Linda, charged with defeating the course of justice by concealing rape. She will also know her fate on 30 January.

Ngulube’s case was transferred to Gwanda, where he appeared before magistrate Sthembiso Ndebele on 21 January.
Prosecutor Zanele Sithole told the court that during the month of December, in the morning, Nkomo left Ngulube in bed with the infant as she went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

After an hour she went back to the bedroom and found Ngulube violating the baby and promised to buy her a bed as a way of silencing her. The case was not reported.

The matter came to light on the 24 December 2025, when Nkomo discovered that Ngulube was having a love affair with another woman. She went to the police and reported the once concealed rape.
The baby was referred to hospital and was medically examined by a doctor.
