BARELY a month after releasing their debut album titled, “Denga rizere nemi,” Boys Christian Union choir from Glenview Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, is already rocking the airwaves.
The choir launched its first album on March 12 at the church’s Glenview circuit.
Songs on the album include the title track, “Denga rizere nemi,” “Kwasara makore,” “Zadzisa chirevo,” Nzvimbo yakanaka” among others.
Last Sunday, “Denga rizere nemi” was played on the future hits on the Star Fm Gospel Greats top 20 charts show, an indication that it has potential to leave a make on the show.
Choir leader, Mr Tapiwa Matarukwa said the title of the album speaks about God’s omnipotent and dominance over everything.
He said the album encourages a life of prayer dedicated to the Almighty God who always hears and responds.
“Our talents are from God and it’s something we have to give back to Him for His Glory,” said Mr Matarukwa.
Mr Matarukwa also spoke about the importance of prayers for the church, especially with the challenges posed by modern living. “Prayers and fasting is the key. As Jesus declared in Mathew 7:7, ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
“Our album contains amazing, soul uplifting, scripturally sound and Christ exalting songs,” he said.
The album was recorded at Grammar records early this year.
Formed in 2004 the all male choir whose members are solely from MCZ aims to honour God by reaching out to the lost through praise and worship songs.
“The album is a result of several hours of dedication, preparation and practice aimed at ensuring that it meets the standard of Colossians 3:23 which states that, “Whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not unto men.”
MCZ youth and children ministries coordinator, Reverend Noel Nariswa who attended the album launch displayed admiration for the choir but also warned them against self-glorification.
Rev Nariswa described the album’s launch as the culmination of a series of projects aimed at propagating the gospel.
“There are things we noticed that our generation has not been able to do. We think the younger generations have a better chance of realising these things.
“We have also decided to bring the youths together so that they can showcase their talent by singing gospels songs that have proper evangelism messages,” said Rev Mariswa.
