Boys’ hockey team finds going tough

THE Zimbabwe hockey Under-17 boys’ team is finding the going tough at the on-going Youth Olympic qualifiers in Lusaka, Zambia.
Yesterday they were held to a 5-5 draw by Namibia having already succumbed to big losses 10-3 to South Africa in their opening encounter on Monday and 6-1 to Zambia on Tuesday. The boys had been beaten 19-0 by Zambia in a build-up match.

Zimbabwe’s qualification hopes have been dashed after the two defeats and the draw.

The girls have had mixed fortunes so far losing 13-2 to South Africa before thrashing Kenya 15-0.

Zimbabwean Stephanie Campbell scored four goals in the encounter against Kenya.

The top two countries in each section will progress to the second Summer Youth Olympic Games to be staged in Nanjing, China in August.
