Brave Hwange out of African safari

Hwange failed to utilise home advantage as they came from behind through Rodwell Chinyengetere on the stroke of half-time after Adam Mahbob had given Amal the lead.
In the first leg the hosts finished with 10-men after Munyaradzi Mangadze was expelled in the 24th minute.
Just 24 hours after compatriots FC Platinum had lost 3-0 to El Merriekeh during the second round of the African Champions League, Hwange had been hoping to salvage some pride for Zimbabwean teams which were doing duty here at the weekend.
With a little bit of precision, Hwange could have scored a goal to reach the second round but lacked composure when it mattered most.
Al Amal Atbara created by far the better chances but they were also wasteful in front of goal.
Hwange have exited from the tournament without losing a game after beating Zanzibaris side Jamhuri 7-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round.
Despite falling out of the African Safari, Hwange coach Tennant  Chilumba, who had been bullish ahead of the tie, said his charges had done their best.
“We are out but it was a good game. The boys played very well we need to give them credit.
“It is our first participation in Caf and a good learning process,” said Chilumba.
The Zambian coach, however, bemoaned the missed chances and their failure to win at home.
“We should have scored at least a goal if we were good at finishing the few chances that we created especially with Gilbert Zulu,” said Chilumba.
Al Amal Atbara coach Mehmoud Izzecdeen conceded that his team struggled and were lucky to scrape through.
“I am happy we have progressed. It was not easy to beat a good team like Hwange.
“They made some few good moves but could not just score but they overally played a good game,” said Izzecdeen.
Referee Maefur Mensur of Eritrea showed Amir Adic a yellow card for hacking down David Boriwondo in the seventh minute.
