Brave Little Hearts raise awareness on congenital heart disease

BRAVE Little Heart Zimbabwe in conjunction with Rotary Club of Bulawayo South yesterday held a clean-up campaign to enlighten the public about congenital heart disease that has led to the death of a number of children.

Brave Little Heart Zimbabwe public relations officer Mr Gift Mpofu said the intention behind the whole heart clean-up campaign was to celebrate the World Heart Day that was marked worldwide while raising awareness on the plight of children living with heart diseases in Zimbabwe.

“We intend to create awareness for the public to come up with local sustainable equipment for the treatment of children living with heart diseases and to equip hospitals and clinics by providing medication.

“We are also looking at those in need of heart surgery and to try to help them financially as the medication is expensive. Yesterday we lost a child who had managed to get donations to get treated but the only thing left was for him to get a visa to go abroad for treatment.”

He said the mission of the Brave Little Heart Zimbabwe is to share hope and hospitality, empower and support families affected by congenital heart disease and to create awareness to policy makers for improved health services and participating in research studies of congenital heart disease.
