LONDON. — Brazil are plotting a sensational move for current Roma boss Jose Mourinho — after they were dumped out of the FIFA World Cup by Croatia in the quarter-finals.
The Selecao had been one of the favourites to win the World Cup this winter, but ultimately fell short. And add salt to the Brazilian wounds, their rivals, Argentina, were the side who ended up conquering the footballing world.
Tite walked after the embarrassing loss on penalties to the European side, leaving the hot seat vacant. And reports from La Repubblica have now suggested the Brazilian FA are hoping to land the Special One.
The report suggests that Brazil have contacted Morinho’s agent Jorge Mendes over the possibility of bringing him into the fold.
In 2017, Mourinho said: “Obviously, it would be exciting, any coach wants to work with the best clubs and with the best. The Brazilian team is obviously a leader of success, obviously with talent, no matter what the generation, talent always appears.
“But I have to confess that it must be difficult, in every Brazilian there is a coach, in each journalist, there is a better coach than the coach. I think it must be a difficult country to work for, but also a passionate one.”
Brazil had reportedly approached current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti about the vacancy, but the Italian reportedly rebuffed the option.
Ancelotti will reportedly only leave the Spanish giants if he is sacked.
Meanwhile, Brazil’s ex-boss Tite – who quit his job after the Selecao were dumped out of the World Cup by Croatia earlier this month – has been allegedly robbed in Rio de Janeiro.
Reports from Brazil claim that the former boss had gone for a walk at 6am when he was targeted by thieves. The thieves reportedly took a chain from the 61-year-old, before berating him about Brazil’s World Cup performance.
After Brazil lost to Croatia on penalties in Qatar, Tite said: “The cycle has ended, and I keep to my word. There are other great professionals that can replace me.” Tite took charge of the Selecao in 2016 — and his crowning success was a Copa America win in 2019. — The Daily Star
