AT least five people died after a mine collapsed at Chegutu-Alisha Mine, near Pickstone Mine in Chegutu, on Monday.

Several artisanal miners are still said to be trapped underground, with efforts to rescue them underway.

Chegutu District Development Coordinator, Mr Mark Kadaira, confirmed the incident, although he could not divulge more information on the tragedy.

Sources say at least five bodies have been retrieved so far after the shaft they were working in gave in and collapsed.
