BREAKING: Two arrested in South Africa over US$4 Million EcoBank heist, await extradition to Zimbabwe

Police in Zimbabwe say two men have been arrested in South Africa in connection with the EcoBank US$4 million heist.

The two, Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu, were arrested on Saturday and now await extradition to Zimbabwe, National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu in connection with the USD 4 million Bulawayo Ecobank robbery heist which occurred on 3rd October 2024. The suspects were arrested on 5th July 2025 in the Republic of South Africa. The due processes of the law are now taking effect for the suspects’ extradition to Zimbabwe,” said Commissioner Nyathi. He said they were seized while pursuing the arrest of other suspects linked to this case.
