THE provisional list of horses to assemble for the running of the Breeders Champions Cup Listed race pencilled in for 24 March at Borrowdale Racecourse has been announced.
A total of 13 battle hardened marathon runners are expected to battle over a gruelling journey of 2 000m post wards for the winner’s prices. Thrown into the hat are Bush Pilot, Leven Point, Pampas, Roman Discent and the highly rated Simona from the yard of Bridget Stidolph.
From the stable of trainer Penny Fisher are Master Switch, Knuckleball and Kevin Barry, while Kirk Swanson well known for conditioning marathon runners four nominees were received and these are Amsterdam, Solinski, Penny From Heaven and Heir Line.
Alongside Breeders Champions Cup are nominees for the second feature race of the day Silver Slipper Listed race to be contested over 1 800m.
For this event lean fields of four entries were put forward and these are Born to Shine, Missy Franklin, Mia Finola by Bridget and Double Dab unleashed by Penny Fisher.
In addition to these two races, six more minor competitions will be held on the day. A total of seventy entries have been received by Mashonaland Turf Club.
According to Mash Turf Club racing manager Betina Gurajena, all stakeholders will convene on Monday 18 March to carry out the final race qualifying phase which will be followed by the compiling of the race card. There is RTGS $8 000 and RTGS $7 000 respectively declared stake money for the two races though the prizes according to the order of merit are yet to be worked out.
