President MNANGAGWA has conferred national hero status on Brigadier-General (Retired) Albert Jack Nyamuronda in recognition of his contribution to the liberation struggle and the defence of Zimbabwe.
The decision was communicated to the Nyamuronda family at their home in Zengeza 3 Extension, Chitungwiza, last night by ZANU PF Politburo member Cde Mike Madiro.
“President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa, has conferred national hero status on the late Cde Brigadier-General (Retired) Albert Nyamuronda, who passed away on 11 August 2026,” said Cde Madiro.
Brig-Gen (Retd) Nyamuronda will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on a date to be announced.
Cde Madiro said President Mnangagwa had directed that the necessary arrangements be made for the burial and payment of benefits to the late national hero’s family.
Brig-Gen (Retd) Nyamuronda, who was from Manicaland, died at Chitungwiza General Hospital on Tuesday last week aged 67.
The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) will tomorrow hold a funeral parade in his honour at Charles Gumbo Barracks.
ZNA public relations director Colonel Hlengiwe Dube said the parade would be held at 2pm, with Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant-General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi as the chief mourner.
Brig-Gen (Retd) Nyamuronda was born in Makoni North district, Manicaland province, under Chief Chikore.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
Mourners are gathered at House Number 14565, Zengeza 3 Extension, Chitungwiza.
