The death of national hero Brigadier-General (Retired) Victor Rungani has left a huge void that will be difficult to fill, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira has said.
While addressing mourners gathered at the Rungani homestead in Bikita, Minister Chadzamira said the province has lost an illustrious hero.
He challenged the people of Masvingo to continue with the values that the national hero stood for.
“He was a key proponent of Vision 2030, which envisions the transformation of Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
“Zimbabweans need to be resolute and take a leaf from luminaries like Brigadier-General (Rtd) Rungani and confront challenges such as illegal economic sanctions, climate change and economic hardships,” he said.
Minister Chadzamira also said Brig-Gen (Rtd) Rungani has left indelible marks on the country’s military and political landscapes.
In his address, War Veterans League Masvingo provincial chair, Major-General (Rtd) Mashingaidze said Brigadier-General (Rtd) Rungani’s death is a big loss to Bikita and Masvingo Province at large.
Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairman, Cde Rabson Mavhenyengwa said the ruling party is poorer without Brigadier-General (Rtd) Rungani.
“He never wavered from the path of the revolution and continued to serve the party after independence, and the Rungani family is a vital cog in the ruling party machine in Masvingo.”
A representative of the Rungani family, Mr Obert Chitake, said they are grateful to the ruling party provincial leadership and President Mnangagwa for conferring national hero status on Brigadier-General (Rtd) Rungani.
The national hero’s body has now left Bikita for Harare.
