Some parents in Harare are in support of proposed innovations to primary school aptitude assessments, a survey carried out by The Sunday Mail reveals.
Mr Jimmy Samson said the new curriculum will broaden pupils’ knowledge.
“If the teachers are capacitated on how to teach the pupils on different areas from an early age, then it will not be a problem when they get to final examinations.”
Another parent, Mr Cainmore Mbanje spoke of the need to include practical lessons.
“Government should secure enough resources so that the examinations will be based on areas that the pupils would have learnt, especially practical subjects. The notes should always accompany practical lessons,” he said.
Ms Samantha Phiri weighed in and said that most children learn fast and therefore the system will be efficient.
“Children do not have trouble adapting to new ideas and ways of operating like adults do. Thus, the new structure will help learners in a big way.”
