Scores of people could be seen trying to force entry into the Harare Showground as late as 5pm.

Most exhibitors interviewed by The Sunday Mail expressed satisfaction with business at the event, which, as per tradition, kicked off on a low note on Monday before gathering steam as the week progressed.

Zimbabwe Agricultural Show spokesperson Heather Madombwe said: “I am very pleased with the way Zimbabweans supported our show. A total of 459 local and eight foreign exhibitors managed to celebrate with us.

“People came in their numbers to share with us their products on display. The foreign exhibitors were from Australia, Brazil, China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa and Zambia.”

She added: “There were 300 cattle entries this year compared to 268 last year and (yesterday) was a bull show.

“The Mukono bull sale had 45 quality bulls of five different breeds selected from 10 registered breeders sold.”

The show was held as Zimbabwe is gearing towards increased agricultural production following last season’s low output.

Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi opened the event last Friday, urging closer co-operation between Harare and Maputo.
