When Britain and other western countries unleashed social media to co-produce uprisings that destabilised and probably altered the history of the Arab world for good they celebrated the work of the internet companies in promoting the intended pandemonium.
At home, in Britain, the people suffered social and economic want as the billions of pounds that ought to have been spent on improving their welfare were diverted to destroy innocent lives in Libya, for instance, in pursuit of regime change there and a swim in Libyan oil.
However, when the same social media that had been loosed on countries in North Africa and in the Middle East went to work recently mobilising Britons in recent riots leaving the image of proud Britain in tatters, they were indicted over their role in promoting the mayhem that shook that country like never before.
And as that nation counted the cost, the government waded through the warm ashes of destruction with one hand wagging an angry finger at social media companies while clutching bridles to ram on into the loquacious mouth of Facebook and Twitter as well as muzzle Blackberry’s smart phone.
Once in harness and with the bridles in place, the social media concerned started to hum the conformity tune to the obscene delight of the David Cameron regime. Britain’s Home Secretary Theresa

But had those riots and their brutal suppression taken place in Zimbabwe or elsewhere on this continent – the entire African soil would have trembled, trees swayed and the air quivered under thunder from Whitehall and the rest of the Western bloc accusing the government here of “human rights violations” and of “media censorship”.
The “reciprocal” nature of technology, as demonstrated by the reverse application of social media in the UK, appears to demonstrate that technology is racially neutral.
One is also reminded of the boomerang effect of the creation of the HIV virus in the test-tube.
It is alleged that those who cultured the virus in the laboratory intended it for the decimation of the black people in a certain country but that the experiment went berserk with the virus also attacking the
“white people” who created it in the first place.
After a recent scandal that sank the News of the World, and now the riots, whoever said lightning does not strike twice.
Well, African mythology tries to prove the belief wrong. For, it is said that lighting does strike a tree a second time as the “lightning bird” goes after the “eggs” it dropped during the first strike.
Well lightning bird or not, lightning eggs or not, there it is the British leaders have had to eat it – the humble pie. But not only they; leaders of other Nato countries with a penchant for military adventures in Africa should take what happened in the United Kingdom as also a wake up call for them to put national interest before unpopular, foreign military expeditions, or else.
Upheavals in England and elsewhere around the globe are eloquent statements that must be read as meaning that humanity has entered perilous times, which herald the final return in glory of the Prince of Peace.
He returns all right, but so what? It is the “but” that is critical not only for Zimbabweans but for the rest of the human race which should urgently define the destiny of its souls between eternity in Heaven and eternity in hell.
