A man from Gwenhamo village under Chief Masunda, Zvishavane, has been sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment for physically abusing his brother.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe stated that Lewis Sibanda appeared before the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court for physically abusing his brother, Francis Sibanda.
The incident occurred on 19 April 2025, when an argument over a missing goat escalated into a violent assault.
“The offender was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, of which two months were suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will serve 10 months effectively. On the 19th of April, 2025, at around 1700 hours, the offender met his brother, Francis Sibanda, who resides at the same homestead, at the gate to their home.
“An argument over a missing goat ensued between the two. The offender then picked up a wooden log and advanced towards the complainant, who attempted to flee but fell to the ground. He proceeded to hit the complainant multiple times on the head, chest, and back with the log, rendering him unconscious,” reads the statement.
Subsequently, a villager arrived and stopped the offender from further assaulting the complainant, who was lying on the ground.
A police report was filed, leading to the arrest of the offender. The complainant was taken to Zvishavane District Hospital for treatment.
