Brothers drown while fishing in Hwedza

Two brothers from the Tambaoga family in Hwedza drowned recently as they were fishing in Manyasaland Dam at Corby Farm.

Munyaradzi (20) and Haggai (23) Tambaoga’s bodies were retrieved by the police’s sub aqua team two days after they went missing.

National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The incident took place on February 22, 2026, at Manyasaland Dam in Hwedza. Munyaradzi Tambaoga (20) and Haggai Tambaoga (23) drowned while fishing,” he said. “Their bodies were retrieved by the ZRP Sub Aqua Unit on February 24, 2026.”

Meanwhile, Commissioner Nyathi said two other people drowned while performing some rituals in Gweru.

“The incident occurred on February 24, 2026, at Clydesdale Farm Dam in Gweru,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

“A traditional healer, Edwin Chingandu (33), also known as Sekuru Samaita, and one of his clients, Philemon Matawire (46), drowned while reportedly conducting manjuzu rituals at the dam. Their bodies were retrieved by the ZRP Sub Aqua Unit on February 25, 2026.”

Commissioner Nyathi appealed to the public to prioritise safety at all times.

“The ZRP urges the public to prioritise safety, particularly when conducting activities on or near water bodies.”
