Brothers kill man for refusing to buy beer

brother Richard (21) is still at large. The incident occurred on May 28 at around 9pm when the brothers were playing pool at Christos Shopping Centre in Ruvimbo suburb. Kevin is alleged to have asked the now deceased Ephraim Makaza to buy him beer and he refused.

A quarrel ensued that saw the two brothers ganging up against Makaza, whom they kicked and punched before leaving the joint.

Makaza was taken to hospital where he was treated and discharged with a fractured leg but was persistently complaining of chest pains. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident, saying the matter was now being treated as murder following Makaza’s death on Saturday en route to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals after his condition deteriorated.

The brothers were arrested for assault the same day and were released on bail when they appeared in court.

However, on June 5 Makaza, who had been complaining of chest pains, became seriously ill and was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital and was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital but he died along the way.

His body was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem and the results showed that he died of haemothorax and lung injuries.
