TWO Plumtree men allegedly pounced on a married woman and took turns to rape her eight times before robbing her of R250. Chance Ngwenya, 30, and Cephas Ngwenya, 32, pleaded not guilty to rape and robbery charges when they appeared before regional magistrate Mark Dzira last week. The magistrate remanded them in custody to June 26.
Cephas told the court that the woman was using the rape charges to cover up her adulterous relationship with him.
“I was in a relationship with this married woman whose husband is in South Africa. So far I’ve had sexual intercourse with her 15 times and everything was going on well,” said Cephas to laughter from the gallery.
“I however caught her in bed with one of the State witnesses, a nephew to her husband and I left the homestead. I then started demanding my R200 she had taken from me the previous day.”
Chance said he slept at home on the day the alleged rape was said to have occurred.
He said he was surprised when police arrested him on rape allegations.
“I don’t know what happened as I was home that night. I didn’t rape her or rob her of anything,” said Chance.
A State witness, a nephew to the woman’s husband, rubbished Cephas’ claims saying the woman approached him first after the brothers had raped her.
“My uncle’s wife approached me and my wife at around 4AM and asked to see my wife privately. After they spoke for some minutes, my wife came back and told me that my uncle’s wife had been raped by two men who took turns to violate her,” said the man.
He said they managed to track two sets of footprints leading to Chance’s homestead that morning and found the two men at home.
“When they saw us, Cephas fled before we could say anything. I’m not having an affair with my uncle’s wife and he’s alleging all this to evade his crime,” he said.
Tinashe Dzipe for the State alleges that on September 6, 2014, at around 9PM in Mlomwe area in Plumtree, the woman retired to bed after closing the door and locking it.
“At around 1AM, the two men arrived and forcibly opened the door to the woman’s room. While inside Chance grabbed the woman and pushed her down before forcing her to lie facing upwards,” said Dzipe.
“In the process he tore the woman’s panties and raped her once while Cephas was watching.
“Soon after Cephas took his turn and raped her once. The two took turns and raped the woman four times each.”
Dzipe told the court that the men later demanded money from the woman and threatened to continue raping her until she gave them cash.
“The woman, out of fear, gave them R250 and they went away. Some footprints were followed to Chance’s homestead leading to their arrest,” added Dzipe.
