Bruce Grobbelaar is not in demand in South Africa as a coach

Legendary Liverpool FC and Zimbabwean national football team goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, whose career has been as vibrant as possible, regrets not being able to coach in his homeland. He said he to give something new to teams in the South African league, but corruption and a high number of match-fixing matches put a stop to his work there.

Bruce now coaches goalkeepers at the Norwegian second-division club Oygarden. It’s hard to imagine that such a job is a dream job for Grobbelaar, especially considering his greatness as a player in the past.

“Yes, I would love to fly to South Africa to coach one of the local teams if given the opportunity. Speaking of my current club, I can terminate my contract with them by agreement with the parties. Otherwise, I’ll just sue them, as I’ve done before,” said Bruce.

Moreover, Grobbelaar claims that the only person waiting for him in the South African league is , the coach of Supersport United, with whom Bruce has a friendly competitive relationship.

Whether Grobbelaar has received any real offers from the South African league or whether this statement was made to show a willingness to move is not yet clear.

Recall that Bruce’s soccer career began in 1973 at the Rhodesian club Highlanders, after which he managed to play in South Africa, Canada, and Zimbabwe. But the longest period of his life was English. From 1979 to 2007, he played in various English leagues, dedicating as much as 14 years to Liverpool.

It was Grobbelaar who invented the spaghetti legs – a demotivating dance on the goal line when the opponent takes a penalty. In the game against Juventus Italy, he chewed on the goal net, imitating the eating of spaghetti, which resulted in Bruno Conti and Francesco Graziani shooting past the goal.

There are not only professional achievements but also scandalous stories associated with the player. Bruce was known to bet on his own matches. Many soccer players are into gambling and sports betting, especially with the development of online casinos and the emergence of rankings like . But few dare to do something as audacious as betting on their own matches.

To date, Bruce is a multiple winner of the European Champions Cup, the FA Cup, the English League Cup, and the FA Super Cup. But that does little to help him find a decent job. Nevertheless, to say that Grobbelaar is poor is impossible. Working at a Norwegian club, albeit not from the first division, is commonplace for professional goalkeepers who have “retired”. We can only hope that in the future, Bruce will be able to return to his homeland to do what he loves there.
