NEWCASTLE will sell Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal for £75million.
The Gunners have been pushing hard to sign the 28-year-old for the last month and are now finally closing in on a deal.
It comes after Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in Spain to ask new head coach Matthias Jaissle for a move away.
Arsenal will pay £75m up front with no add-ons for the midfielder.
They had a bid of the same amount rejected earlier this week but altered the terms to complete the deal.
The full fee is now guaranteed.
Lyon will earn between £7m and £8m from the sale as part of a clause which sees them entitled to 20 per cent of Newcastle‘s profit.
The midfielder joined the Magpies from Lyon in January 2022 for a £40m fee.
Guimaraes – who was named Newcastle captain two years ago – has made 195 appearances for the club in four-and-a-half years.
During that time, the Brazilian has scored 31 goals and provided 32 assists.
He also played a crucial role as the Magpies ended their 70-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in March 2025.
Guimaraes is now expected to fly to London for a medical.
The midfielder had two years left on his Newcastle contract and becomes the latest high-profile star to leave St James’ Park.
Anthony Gordon became the first departure of the summer when he completed a £70m transfer to Barcelona at the end of May.
Sandro Tonali also called it quits and joined Tottenham in a deal worth £100m.
To add to their woes, Newcastle have also missed out on some of their priority targets.
Johan Manzambi joined Aston Villa over the Magpies, with Victor Munoz opting to sign for Liverpool.
And to unsettle things even more, head coach Eddie Howe walked away from the club last week.
Newcastle start their season against Liverpool on August 23 before a swift reunion with Tonali when they travel to Spurs the following weekend.— Sun.
