BSSL wants to make a positive impact in communities

THE Bulawayo Social Soccer League (BSSL) has pledged to make a positive impact in communities as opposed to just being known for playing social football on Sundays.

This follows the BSSL’s move a month ago to get involved in corporate social responsibility activities by donating groceries and conducting a clean-up exercise at Entembeni Old People’s Home in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb.

The home was established in 1967. BSSL vice-chairman, Anderson Sibanda, said the event has motivated them to do more for the community.

“We are pleased to have conducted that programme which was a huge success. It is our aim as a league to make a difference in communities in whatever way possible.

“Following our gesture at Entembeni, we are planning to come up with more programmes that will have an impact on our communities. We also want to join the community in the fight against drug and substance abuse which is destroying the young generation,” said Sibanda.

BSSL recently concluded the 2024 Founders Cup tournament whose final were played at Magwegwe North grounds. Iminyela Timers were crowned champions after beating Vulavale 1-0 in the final. The Founders Cup is held annually to honour the founding fathers of the league who include Chris Mhlanga. Mhlanga is one of the pioneers of BSSL which has been in existence for the past 42 years. The first round of the competition saw 32 teams taking part.
