BUBI Hospice, an organisation dedicated to providing end-of-life care and support, is set to host the annual World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) event on October 14.
The event, which will take place at Queens Sports Club, aims to raise awareness of hospice and palliative care and advocate for better access to these services for everyone.
The WHPCD event will be held from 10am to 6pm, accommodating up to 350 people. The venue will be adorned with purple decorations, symbolising hospice and palliative care. To ensure the smooth running of the event, volunteers will be needed for setup, registration, and clean-up.
In their event announcement document, it said that the event will feature various activities and resources aimed at educating the public about hospice and palliative care.
“Attendees can expect guest speakers, informational sessions, interactive games, face painting, food and drinks, entertainment, virtual reality experiences, yoga and many more” read the document.
Hospice and Palliative Care are specialised medical care services that prioritise the comfort and quality of life for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. WHPCD serves as a platform to celebrate the work of hospice and palliative care providers and express gratitude for their dedication to helping people at the end of life.
Under the theme “Compassionate Communities Together for Palliative Care,” the Bubi Hospice said this year’s WHPCD event emphasises the importance of communities coming together to support individuals and their families facing life-limiting illnesses.
“Compassionate communities are those that are understanding, supportive, and welcoming, providing a safe and respectful environment for those in need of care and support. They are places where people can feel safe and respected and where they can get the care and support they need,” read the document.
Bubi Hospice aims to create a compassionate community by providing a range of services, including palliative care, social support, bereavement counselling, and a primary school offering quality education to children admitted into the hospice and those in the surrounding area.
Bubi Hospice encourages individuals, healthcare professionals, community members, and corporations to attend the event and show their support for compassionate communities and palliative care.
Angela Nyathi, the administrator at Bubi Hospice said they are happy to be holding such an event and those that are willing to partner with them should get in touch.
“We are excited to bring awareness to such an important cause and we hope that people do come through to support. We are also in need of sponsorship for the event” she said.
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, advocate for better access, and express gratitude to those who provide invaluable care and support to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Bubi Hospice is committed to making a difference in the lives of those in need and ensuring they face the end of life with dignity and peace. — @TashaMutsiba
