BUDIRIRO 4 Primary will this year represent Zimbabwe at the Africa School Chess Under-14 Championships in Cape Town next month.
The team won the Under-14 Crystal Candy championship held at Mary Mount Teacher’s College in Mutare.
Jimmy Psillos, the Crystal Candy CEO, believes the tournament is good for junior chess development in the country.
“Crystal Candy is very proud to be associated with the Zimbabwe Chess Federation and to support the Schools Chess Championship.
“We highly value the Federation’s efforts to promote chess in schools, as it is an excellent and healthy pastime for young people.
“Chess helps develop critical thinking, concentration, discipline, problem-solving skills, and sportsmanship – qualities that are invaluable both in the classroom and in later life.
“We commend the Zimbabwe Chess Federation for its commitment to nurturing these skills among our nation’s youth and are delighted to play a part in supporting this important initiative,” said Psillos.
Zimbabwe Chess Federation president, Todd Mapingire, believes Budiriro 4 Primary School will do well in representing the country.
“I am happy that we have a representative in Budiriro 4 Primary and also acknowledge the presence of Mutare Mayor Simon Chabuka,
“I thank the Principal of Mary Mount Teachers College and your gracious, hardworking staff for opening these doors, for your exceptional hospitality, and for hosting 40 schools drawn from all 10 provinces of this great nation.”
