Buffaloes darts club of Mutare and Chatogo of Chipinge will lift the province’s flag high as they represent Manicaland at the Champions of Champions National Darts Tournament scheduled for Munyati in Kwekwe on February 28.
The best teams from the eight provincial leagues around the country are set to compete in the tournament which was initially supposed to be staged last year.
Each province will send two teams which ended in the first and second places during their 2014 darts leagues.
Manicaland darts chairman Joel Marime expressed confidence in the provincial representatives.
“I have confidence in their performance and I have no doubt that they will be good ambassadors. They can win some trophies. We have done our best in terms of preparations and we are expecting nothing but good results,” said Marime.
Buffaloes won the league last year while Chatogo are newcomers that joined the darts league last year and they came first in their league at district level.
Buffaloes will bank on the experiences of national team star Melody Gezana and former national team player William Mupfawa.
Winners will walk away with a price of $500 plus trophy, shields and medals while losing finalists will pocket $400.
Those who reach the semi finals will be awarded $300 each while those teams knocked out in the first round will get $200.
Marime believes that the game of darts in the province has a bright future.
“I believe that as a province we are going far and the future is bright. Darts is a game that we are taking to National Association of School Heads (NASH) and we are doing some training sessions for NASH officials. For instance, we took some officials to Zone 6 coaching clinic in Harare last August and they graduated.
“It’s a growing sport and we will be having national U13 and U15 for both girls and boys which will be going for Zone 6 tournament in Namibia this coming May. We also need sponsorship and we believe darts can also attract sponsorship.” said Marime.
