BULAWAYO’s Buffaloes Strikers are ready for the annual Madlangombe Football tournament that will feature three other teams from rural Tsholotsho tomorrow.

The tournament will be played at the Madlangombe Grounds, about 25KM from Tsholotsho business centre, and is bankrolled by South African-based Zimbabwean Mthabisi Mlingo.

Buffaloes Strikers captain Stanford Nkomo said their aim was to win the tournament, which is now in its fifth year.

He said they want to celebrate the New Year in style by winning the tournament.

“We are ready and eager to win the tournament as the guys have been training very hard. We thank the sponsor for this good gesture, which puts Tsholotsho into the limelight ,” said Nkomo.

Other teams set to feature in the tournament are Green Mambas from Nembe, Godweni and hosts Bhulubisa. The winners will walk away with a full kit, medals and a ball.

“This is the fifth year we have been running this tournament meant to bring our youths together.

“I want to kill the notion that Tsholotsho is an area where only negative things happen as is always portrayed in the media. Our district boasts of talented footballers and I want to expose that talent,” said Mlingo.

He said at this time of the year most stories on the district are negative as a result of people that commit murder and other such crimes.

“I am saying we have people like us who want to fight this stigma. We want the world to know that we care about where we come from and we want Tsholotsho to develop. I call upon everyone with roots in Tsholotsho to come on board and assist,” said Mlingo.
